As Consultant Psychiatrist you will be joining the health service in the largest city in this region population around 116,000. You will work with an experienced and committed team of health professionals to deliver mental health service to inpatients and community adult patients.

Clinical audit, non-clinical activities such as peer review and professional development are well supported in this health service that also provides specialist older persons, child and adolescent, addictions and psychiatry consultation liaison services.  After hours you will be required to provide some limited cover for across all services while providing support for the roster. The call frequency is approximately one in ten (1:10). You will be based in a mental health service co-located with the 360-bed general hospital. This is a RANZCP Registrar training programme and the regional Clinical School presents opportunities for teaching and research.

Position 2 - Adult Psychiatrist in smaller regional city

This role is for a general adult psychiatrist for a role based in a smaller regional city of about 50,000.  You will work with two other psychiatrists and a multidisciplinary team to deliver secondary mental health services to inpatients and community adult patients. The service receives good support also to deliver services for Maori by Regional Maori Health. On call is approximately 1:5 weekdays and 1:10 weekends as roster includes psychiatrist in other regional locations. Support is also provided from the larger city service for specialist older persons and child and youth services however the local psychiatrist does get called on at times and generalist skills are required. Current driver's licence is essential as you will need to travel to the larger city (about 80 mins lovely coastal drive) for service meetings, peer review sessions etc.  There is built in support for clinical audit and recognition of non-clinical time and continuing professional development. The MH service is co-located with a brand new hospital, secondary level medical service and excellent collegial support.  The local Clinical School presents opportunities for student teaching.

Two terrific opportunities in the north east coast of the North Island - where the sun shine is plentiful and the surf crystal clear. Both these cities are great if you have a family, the first more so if your children are at secondary school level. Auckland is 2 hour drive or a very quick flight on the weekend and Rotorua one hour. Beaches, ski fields, national parks, this location has the lot if you want to explore the beautiful outdoors of NZ and enjoy all that this country has to offer.
