Psychiatrist Clinical Director Regional NSW Great For Family Town

Reporting to the Area MH Director, you will be providing clinical leadership to an existing team of five Psychiatrists in a regional mental health service that includes community based services, hospital liaison, inpatient units (adult general and subacute older persons), coordinating the clinical assessment and development of comprehensive biopsychosocial and management treatment plans. This service is part of one of Australia's largest east coast health regions and covers both a town of 50,000 plus a region of more than 180,000. Psychiatric facilities in the town include 25 bed acute adult unit, 15 bed older persons unit plus community services for C&A and older persons clients.

In this role you will have a high level of authority to make decisions; and there is a particular emphasis on the development and expansion of sub-specialty psychiatry services, particularly C&A and Older Persons, and innovative psychiatric service such as tele-psychiatry. You will be working collaboratively with the other members of the executive team including the service manager and nurse manager to ensure efficient and effective delivery of KPIs and revenue generation with the service as well as being responsible for the supervision of medical staff at all levels. You will be participating in the shared after hours oncall service; conducting outpatient and community clinics, including GP Health centre based clinics; and be responsible for the ECT service.

You will be based at a 290 bed general hospital in a town of 50,000 and a regional population of 182,000. It is is home to a major education complex with a 200 seat lecture theatre located onsite in the University Department of Rural Health, offering excellent opportunities to become involved in teaching and research activities. In 2011 the hospital commenced a $260 million facility redevelopment, ensuring the facility remains equipped with state of the art technologies and enhancing its health care services.

This position is located in a exciting, vibrant, prosperous and unique regional city, approximately 500km north of Sydney. Agriculture is one of the city's main economies, with an array of wineries, market gardens and farms to enjoy. The town is horse racing capital of Australia, with a thriving equine centre and often playing host to glamorous racing carnivals and events. With exceptionally suitable flying weather, the region is home to the primary pilot screening and training facility within Australia - making it the perfect place for the recreational pilot!

Selection Criteria for Psychiatrist Clinical Director Regional NSW include:

- Fellowship of the RANZCP or equivalent specialist qualification.

- Advanced Training in a sub-specialty area such as Child and Adolescent or Older Persons is strongly desirable.

- Evidence of being a good scholar, particularly supporting the supervision of JMOs

- have a strong commitment to evidence-based clinical practice

- Driver's licence

- A collaborative approach including ability to network and operate within an interdisciplinary framework and to work with other stakeholders

- Experience in projects relating to telepyschiatry service development is desirable.

- Management experience including ability to be flexible and cope with a rapidly altering mental health system and service improvements
